On New Year's Eve there is an increase in Italian toast: not only Prosecco and Franciacorta, but also regional products such as sparkling Albana.Increase domestic consumption…

More Italian sparkling wine, less champagne and other foreign brands. On New Year's Eve, we raise a glass, more and more often for "ethnic" sparkling wine. The bubble remains a symbolic gesture during which we welcome the ending year and start a new one, but with a specific choice. According to the Uive-Ismaia Wine Observatory, over 106 million bottles of sparkling wine were opened in our country during the Christmas period compared to last year (an increase of4%), 96% of which was produced in Italy.

It brings the total production of Italian bubbly over one billion bottles and consolidates a clear growth trend: in fifteen years the volume has almost tripled and compared to the previous record in 2024, an increase of 1.8%. The figure is even sharper if you read the figure internationally, confused by economic uncertainty and sluggish consumption.

Exports are at -8% and champagne is losing ground: in the first nine months of the year, its sales to Italy recorded a 12% fall in value, according to data from the French Douanes et Droits Indirects.

Confirmation of this trend is the Consorzio di Tutela Conegliano Valdobbiadene Prosecco Docg data at the end of the year: overall sales growth of +8% compared to 2024, total sales of 98 million bottles."The figures that we will close in 2025 are the result of a path built over time that puts territory, people and quality at the center of attention," says Franco Adami, president of the consortium. "For us, the growth in sales is the result of our joint work aimed at information, culture and a more conscious promotion of our faith in Italy and around the world."

The end-of-year toast thus also becomes a framework of faith: in the quality, variety and ability of Italian bubbles to interpret different tastes, territories and moments.A concrete and non-symbolic signal to start the new year with awareness and careful optimism in the glass.
